The Art of everyday - A week in the Life of Pa Thomas

Monday, March 29, 2010

I thought it would be fun to chronicle a week of each of us in some of the various things we do. Pa recently had a business trip to WA and took our camera along. Here is his trip/week from his perspective:

Can't take a trip without a departure picture. Monica drops me off at Providence Airport. Thanks Love! There are times when it's really hard to leave. Only going for a week this time!

Yes, I'm flying to Washington State via Las Vegas. That's what happens when you book a flight one business day before leaving.

I thought this was a cool picture. This picture belongs on the 6:00 o'clock news!

Reading is one of my favorite things to do when strapped down for 5 1/2 hrs with no place to go.

J. Adams is one of my favorite authors. He has great insights into the human heart.

I thought this view was stunning! It was somewhere over Arizona. I saw some of the most stunning views from the air in a long time. Sure beats flying into Chicago.

Another great desert picture. I think this is Lake Mead. I swam in it while on a cross trip with my parents when I was 12 yrs old.

The Las Vegas airport was filled...yes filled, with slot machines that were all making cheap computer game noises...eeech! What a waste of money and time. By the way, the name of this particular slot machine was the "Wheel of Fortune"...really...the scripture that came to mind at this point was, "in whom [Christ] are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" Col 2:3

I had a 4hr lay over in Las Vegas...so I took some country side pictures from the top of the parking garage.

No this is not Egypt! Probably one of the casinos. Never having frequented one of these establishments, I don't know exactly what it is. Probably not a Lehman's outlet. Anyone know?

A view of the Las Vegas. An impressive looking city.

Monica and I rented one of these cars on our 30th Honeymoon last month, so I thought I'd rent one again.

Art 1!
(Actually I was trying to snap a picture of Safeco Field in Seattle and the camera ended up focusing on the rear view mirror. Art by accident!)

Picture speaks for itself.
(I took this picture while driving on the highway on the way to the Seattle Ferry)

My traditional first stop in Seattle while waiting for the ferry. World Wraps makes the best Wasabi, Salmon, sprout, cucumber, sea weed brown rice bowl...Yummm!

What an impressive looking ferry! It's a two story ferry. Don't see those kind of ferry's around here. In New England the ocean is too turbulent. Actually this ferry is crossing Puget Sound as it leaves Seattle bound for Bainebridge Island. My final destination is Poulsbo, WA were my hotel is. My work place is in the nearby town of Keyport at the Keyport Navy Base.

There I am on the ferry as it leaves Seattle. On clear days I can just about reach out and touch Mt Rainier and the Olympic Mtns.

Impressive!
The Space Needle is just outside this photo.

Art 2

A typical scene along the waterway to Bainebridge Island.
By the way, anyone know where Keyport and Poulsbo, WA is?

Had to take this picture. This is a Whole Food like place that was directly across the street from my hotel. I went there for great lunches and my Kombucha fix!

Don't see that word Kirk too often unless your from Scotland! Actually, the following pictures are in the town of Poulsbo, which is a Norwegian town. What a quaint town!

Quaint

What a neat street sign. King Olav V actually was king who reigned in the last century. He was a ski jumper and a patriotic man.

Downtown Poulsbo.

Another downtown shot.

A typical Poulsbo shop.

An inviting picture. Sort of makes you want to dance.

The red dot is a "here you are" sign in Puget Sound for you geography lovers.

Could be Newport,RI except for the hill in the background.

Looks more like a Mexican restaurant than a Poulsbohemian Coffehouse!

My place of work. I really do go 3k miles to work.

A parting short as I head toward Seattle to fly back to MA for my reunion with my wife and family.

The Lord Bless you all richly. My His Word dwell richly in your hearts!
